The Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals (PASNAP), which represents 1,500 nurses at Temple, said it had filed a complaint yesterday with the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board claiming the hospital was demanding that a gag clause limiting public criticism of Temple or its managers be included in the new contract. ... The nurses were due to vote on the contract ratification last night. The contract, negotiated on behalf of AGH's 1,300-plus registered nurses by SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania, is to take effect immediately, replacing a three-year contract that expired this week. Temple health workers postpone strike

Linda Loyd, Philadelphia Inquirer, October 1, 2009 Nurses and allied professionals at Temple University Hospital have postponed a three-day strike planned for tomorrow and will set a new strike deadline in mid-October. The 1,500 union members voted overwhelmingly Tuesday night to reject the hospital's latest offer, which called for no wage increase this year and a 2 percent raise in each of the next two for nurses. Temple was offering a 2.5 percent raise in the fourth year for allied-health workers. The union is seeking a 4 percent raise in each of the next three years. Wages are not the main issue; health care, education benefits, and recruitment and retention are, said Bill Cruice, executive director of the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals.

The Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals held a rally outside Temple University Hospital Monday to protest what they are describing as the health system’s “bad faith approach” to contract negotiations.

The union, which represents 1,500 nurses and other workers at the North Philadelphia hospital, is threatening to hold a three-day strike starting October 2 if a new contract is not reached by the time the current agreement expires September 30.

The Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals, which represents 1,500 nurses and allied health professionals at Temple University Hospital, has informed the North Philadelphia medical center that its members intend to strike if a new contract is not reached before their existing one expires on September 30.

The union said they will strike for three days, October 2 to 4, if a deal is not signed.

The major issues driving the dispute, according to PASNAP, are “Temple’s refusal to negotiate over staffing concerns, the elimination of a long standing promise of tuition benefits at Temple and the cost of health insurance.”

Crozer-Chester Medical Center nurses OK contract

Philadelphia Business Journal, June 4, 2008 Registered nurses at Crozer-Chester Medical Center ratified a new union contract Tuesday night by a vote of 501 to 63. The three-year agreement includes: wage increases of 4 percent per year; improvements in staffing, through the posting of 35 nursing positions throughout the hospital; increases in the bonuses paid to nurses to work extra shifts, from $50 to $70 per eight-hour shift; and an increase in the differential paid to "charge" nurses from $1 to $2 per hour. Crozer-Chester, nurses reach tentative deal

Philadelphia Business Journal, June 3, 2008 Crozer-Chester Medical Center reached a tentative agreement Tuesday on a new contract for its nursing staff. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Crozer-Chester's approximately 800 nurses are scheduled to vote on the proposed contract later in the day Tuesday. The nurses are members of the Crozer-Chester Nurses Association, which is part of the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals. PASNAP is recommending the nurses ratify the proposal. The existing contract between the hospital and its nurses is set to expire at the end of the day on Wednesday. Crozer-Chester medical center in Upland, Pa., is part of the Crozer-Keystone Health System, the largest hospital group in Delaware County.
