Nurses threaten strike at Dubuque hospital

Associated Press, June 21, 2006

Dubuque - Nurses at Finley Hospital are threatening to strike if a new contract is not ratified in the next week and a half.

The two sides have been negotiating since March, and nurses from the Service Employees International Union Local 199 said the Finley team has not budged on its wage proposal.

The contract expires at 11:59 PM Tuesday, but the nurses cannot legally strike until after they issue a 10-day strike notice.

The union, which represents more than 300 Finley nurses, says it will issue that notice if the contract expires. ... Nurses
